We Tend to Care

OUR MISSION IS TO MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR ERIE COUNTY – AND THAT'S A PROMISE WE INTEND TO KEEP.

At Tendto Credit Union, our investment in Erie, its people and its institutions is a deposit toward our shared future. What’s good for all is good for us and good for you. Together, let's make a difference right here in our local community. To Erie — lake, county and people.

Current Community Involvement

Tendto Credit Union invites you to make a donation and help us make a difference in our community. We are currently fundraising for the St. Martin Center's Shining Star Program.

Waking up on Christmas morning and knowing that Santa came with gifts for you is a magical feeling that we all remember from childhood. Each holiday season, Tendto is proud to give that feeling back to local children in need. We sell Sarris candy in our branch lobbies during November and December to benefit the Shining Stars Program at the St. Martin Center. Additionally, team members volunteer their time during program sign-ups and gift sorting. Through the program, we help provide Christmas gifts to more than 1,500 children in the Erie area.

You can help to! Stop in any branch and purchase a candy bar today. All proceeds will benefit the Shining Star Program.

2019 Community Outreach Efforts

Second Harvest Food Bank

Each year, Tendto raises funds to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank’s BackPack Program. The BackPack Program provides needy children with nutritious, child-friendly food when other resources, such as school lunches and after-school meals or snacks, are not available. Backpacks are discreetly distributed to participating children at schools on Fridays and helps provide the proper nutrition necessary for overall growth, physical and cognitive development and satisfactory performance in school.

In conjunction with our 61st Annual Meeting, the credit union collected donations to benefit the BackPack Program. In addition, the proceeds from team member casual days and Sarris candy bar sales at the teller lines was also donated. On behalf of the credit union, its team members and its members, a donation in the amount of $4,247.12 was made to The Second Harvest Food Bank's BackPack Program. Together, we can help end hunger right here in Erie.

Community Shelter Services

From July 16 through August 14, the credit union collected donations of new school supplies at all branch locations for Community Shelter Services, Inc. The supplies were then provided to local homeless or at risk children, giving them the opportunity for academic success.

Community Shelter Services exists to preserve the dignity and support the development of individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by providing temporary, transitional and permanent options for shelter, as well as supportive services, referrals, advocacy and community education.

Through the generous support of both members and team members alike, the credit union collected hundreds of dollars of school supplies, including backpacks, notebooks, markers, crayons, rulers, glue, pens, pencils and more,

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

More than 10 million kids enter a children’s hospital like St. Vincent across North America every year. To provide the best care for kids, children’s hospitals rely on donations and community support, as Medicaid and insurance programs do not fully cover the cost of care. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network has helped fill those funding gaps by raising more than $5 billion, most of it $1 at a time.

In November, Tendto presented a check in the amount of $3,701.65 to Saint Vincent Hospital, our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. The donation will help to fund life-saving equipment and provide additional resources so that local sick or injured kids can receive the best care possible.

A special thank you to all our members who purchased a candy bar and to our team members who donated money to wear a more casual style of dress. Without you, this donation would not have been possible.

Sponsorships

In addition to our member drives, the credit union also sponsors a variety of charitable organizations and community events throughout the year. This year, the credit union has supported: The Erie City Mission, BayHawks School Kids Jam, Children's Care Fund, Special Olympics, Alzheimer's Association, Junior Achievement, Austism Society, New Blossoms New Life Foundation and more.

2018 Community Wrap-Up

In keeping the cooperative spirit of credit unions alive, Tendto continued support and investment in the Erie community by sponsoring a wide variety of charitable organizations and community events last year. Some of the charities included: March of Dimes "March for Babies”, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Second Harvest Food Bank BackPack Program, Community Shelter Services, Salvation Army and the St. Martin Center Shining Stars Program. In addition, Tendto donated time and money to support a variety of other local organizations such as: The expERIEnce Children's Museum, New Blossoms New Life Foundation, Fairview Cares, Make A Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation, Autism Society, Habitat for Humanity, numerous youth sports teams and more.

In total, more than $58,000 was given back in donations to community organizations, sponsorships, member giveaways, scholarships and more during 2018. As we move forward, our dedication to making life better for Erie County will continue to be the foundation of our mission, just as it has been since 1958!
